Summer Activity Weeks

Next week sees the first of two summer fun weeks with Sensei Paul and Sensei David which take place at Bure Park School in Bicester. This year Sensei Paul and Sensei David are going bigger and better and their aim is to provide the most fun, memorable weeks for all that were lucky enough to get a place. In conjunction with their regular activities that include swimming, face painting, football, team games, bowling, bouncy castles, bouncy obstacle and of course not forgetting the crazy water fights, they have also added to the programme this year activities that include slacklining, giant inflatable twister and a mornings visit from reptile rescue specialist, Crocodile Joe!!!! Joe, AKA Crocodile Joe was given this name by Aborigines whilst he was working with crocodiles in Australia. Joe now runs a reptile educational road show and spends much of his time touring pet shows, schools, colleges and Haven holiday parks. He has also featured on many TV shows that include Blue Peter, BBC1’s Animals 24/7 and Animal planet!

OSTMA are hugely excited to have Joe visit us. His show is hugely educational and the children get to see (and hold should they wish) some incredible reptiles that include bearded dragons, Skinks, Lizards, Geckos, Scorpions, Tarantulas, Tortoises and some of the biggest snakes you’ve ever seen!! These weeks courses are going to be a blast!!

Unfortunately all places for both weeks were filled within a matter of just a couple of days but do contact other senseis as others are running a variety of courses this summer. Sensei Tom and Sensei Sam are also running activity weeks in the Carterton area, Sensei Lee and Sensei Joby are running accelerated karate courses in Brackley and Banbury areas, Sensei Phil is running additional karate sessions in Barton and Sensei David is running a "parent and child" family martial arts course on Sunday 16th August in 2 different venues, Bicester and Kirtlington so if any of you fancy looking for some extra stuff to do over the summer, contact the relevant sensei from the contacts page.

Bure Park Summer Fete

Once again we have been asked to perform a demonstration at the upcoming Bure Park School fete on Saturday 13th June. The success of our demonstrations fall upon the help from our students through their participation at these with us. We love to invite all our students to be involved regardless of grade and everyone who attends will play some small part in the demonstration. We also hand out “demo” stars at every demonstration a student participates in which can be ironed on to the uniforms. Once a student has performed at 6 displays we give them the “Demo Team” badge so that everyone can see you are part of a demo team. We are also handing out participation certificates too.

Please, if you are free, come and join us for the display. Even if you are not a Bure Park student you are all welcome. We are performing a Lil’ Dragons display at 12pm so all available Lil’ Dragons should meet at our stall at 11:50am and our Karate display is at 1:30pm so ask all students who can help should join us at our stall at 1:15pm. Uniforms to be worn.

Just come along on the day and we will see you at the stall. Many thanks for your support on this.

Event Location:

Inter Club Competition and Junior League Event

The next inter club sparring competition takes place in October in Abingdon (exact date and venue tbc). This competition will be open to all students of orange belt level and higher.

All students are separated into grade and size groups meaning everyone will only compete against someone equal in these areas. Flyers will be handed out in classes nearer to the time and there is no need to book, just turn up on the day. Entry is £10 and free to all spectators.

Following the inter club competition, the final round of the junior league event takes place. Event 2 back in June saw a turn around in the standings for all teams with the Warriors now sitting top and the Vikings 2nd. All is to play for however at this final event with the top 2 teams under pressure from the teams below. Remember, the top 2 teams at the conclusion of the final event in October will show case at this years Christmas party where we will find out who the 2015 champions will be.
